Nadine Laughlin -Natural Nursing-
A registered nurse of 20 years, I have worked with individuals and families from birth to death and many places in between: pregnancy and birth, home health care, hospice, mental health, school and occupational health, and family practice. I also had my own practice – Natural Nursing Therapies – in the USA.
I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing, specializing in Midwifery and Women’s Health. I live in Portland, Jamaica.
I have a particular interest in complementary/integrative medicine and working with the natural elements to support health and healing. I have studied, and continue to study: Native American and Mayan medicine, Guided Imagery, Hydrotherapy, Aromatherapy, Circlework, and more.
I believe wholeheartedly that the practice of medicine today needs to return to the simple basics: the gifts of nature, and the wisdom of our own body, mind and spirit.
These are the greatest healers of all. My approach to my practice of Natural Nursing is based in reverence for the natural elements.
I offer sessions individually tailored to your needs and interests, using these modalities:
Hot Stone Massage – I work from a Native American tradition – Inyan Pejuta – Stone Medicine. I was taught by Jenny Ray, a Lakota Sioux healer and teacher, in the high mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
Hydrotherapy and Aromatherapy – The use of water, warmth, and plants to attend to specific or generalized health concerns. I use hot and cool compresses, baths, stones, plants, essential oils, and massage . My intention is to carry the beautiful healing qualities of the natural elements to your body, mind and spirit…. allowing them to bring their gifts to you.
Interactive Guided Imagery – I completed in-depth training for health care professionals through the Academy for Guided Imagery in Santa Monica, California. Guided Imagery is a gentle, safe and powerful technique that works directly with the images that arise from your own imagination and inner wisdom. These images reflect the inner workings of your own healing processes, and often permit access to very helpful information about the issue at hand. As a trained guide, I assist you in learning to access and utilize the insights, resources, and solutions that arise from your own unconscious. Dr. Andrew Weil calls Interactive Guided Imagery “one of the most powerful techniques to access healing that I know of.”
Each session lasts between 1 and ½ hours. Cost is $40 US for visitors or $2500 local. If this cost is difficult for you, but you would like a session, please do not hesitate to ask me.
